Ultimate Bet: The Nuts and Bolts:
Contact: support@ultimatebet.com
Established: 2000
Texas hold em limits: $.02-$.04 through $300-600
What we like about Ultimate Bet:
Great sign-up bonus, and it's fairly easy to clear.
The best big no limit Texas Hold em games on the 'net.
Along with Paradise Poker, Ultimate Bet has the smoothest running software you'll find.
What we don't like about Ultimate Bet:
The games during the day are usually terrible (except on Sat. and Sun.)
Ultimate Bet: Online Poker Room Review:
OK, let's get one thing out of the way; Ultimate Bet does not have the toughest low limit Texas hold em games on the 'net. This rumor has persisted for upwards of four years now, and it's just not true. The low and mid limit Texas hold em games at Ultimate Bet can be very juicy; you just have to know when to play there.
We're going to do this review by giving you a 'one minute history' of the world of online poker. Now, in the beginning there was Planet Poker. Never heard of it? Good-the software was terrible, there was no sign up bonus (at least not one I remember), and the games were terrible, owing to the fact that 50% of the people playing Texas hold em online 5 years ago were pros. Then came Paradise Poker, which swept through the world of online poker like a hurricane. You could play two tables at once there, which was fantastic, the customer support was (and still is) outstanding, and they actually had software that didn't seize up on every third deal. Shortly thereafter Ultimate Bet and Poker Stars emerged as big players on the online poker scene, and that's pretty much how things stayed until late 2002-early 2003, when the mass migration to Party began.
When Party arrived on the scene a few changes took place. They were the first online poker room to really stage a massive publicity campaign, and as a result they got scads of sign-ups from new Texas hold em players. As you can imagine these games were just a total fish fry, and Party quickly set the standard for how juicy online poker games were supposed to be. The result of all this? The Texas hold em games at places like Paradise and Ultimate Bet, which had been fairly tight (but still beatable), got the reputation for being terrible games. This just wasn't true. The Texas hold em games at Ultimate Bet were still good, but they just weren't as good as the games at Party. But then, whose were? Three years ago nobody could offer a working pro access to the sheer volume of fish that Party could offer.
But then a funny thing happened. As word got out about the crazy Party Texas hold em games pros from places like Ultimate Bet began setting up shop there. Which meant they weren't playing at Ultimate Bet anymore, which meant in turn that the Texas hold em games at Ultimate Bet suddenly got really, really good. But nobody knew about it. You could stroll into Ultimate Bet at nine at night on a Saturday and find three to five $3-$6 games with a $55+ average pot size. Ditto for Paradise . In fact, the games at Ultimate Bet have arguably become easier than the games at Party, since so many competent Texas hold em players only play in the Party games.
This is where we stand now. The only hold over from the old days is that the mid-day Ultimate Bet Texas hold em games are wretched, colorless affairs, with eight or ten nut huggers pushing blinds back and forth hour after hour. If you're a Wall Street guy and like to play a little Texas hold em on your lunch break this is not the card room for you. But, if you usually play at night Ultimate Bet is just a fantastic place to open up shop.
Also, Ultimate Bet is the online poker room for players looking for big no limit Texas hold em action. I've seen five figure pots built in their biggest games, and high four figure pots are far from uncommon. If you like no limit Texas hold em, and want to play in a game where the blinds are paid in red chips, you need look no further-Ultimate Bet is the online poker room for you.
