PokerRoom: Online Poker Room Review:
A funny thing about Pokerroom: when I first opened an account there years ago the place was just a total ghost town, with maybe a few Texas hold em games running. I browsed around, played a couple orbits, and then chalked it up as just another dead poker room (of which there is no shortage on the 'net, as you may well know). I was pretty busy slaughtering the Texas hold em games on Party, so I never gave Pokerroom so much as a second thought. I'd see message boards where someone posted a hand that was played there, and some of my acquaintances told me the Texas hold em action had picked up, but I didn't think anything of it. Another online poker room-big deal.

Man oh man, how times have changed. As we all know, Party Poker gets more Texas hold em action than any other online poker room. But Pokeroom is right there with Pacific, Paradise and UltimateBet when it comes to the runner up position. Now let me be clear-if you're in the habit of four-tabling the Party $15-$30, then Pokerroom is not the online poker room for you. The limits go from $10-$20 to $25-$50, and while the heads up action at $25-$50 can be good the full ring games don't usually go off (except on the weekends). But if you're playing $3-$6 Texas hold em or smaller then Pokerroom is definitely an online card room that you need to get intimate with. The Texas hold em action compares favorably to the Party games (maybe a tad tighter on the weekends), and the rake structure-- $1 at $20, then another buck at $40 and a third dollar at $60-isn't prohibitive. Also, Pokerroom offer 5 max tables as opposed to 6 max, which most shorthanded experts will find more profitable.

Another nice thing about Pokerroom is how hard they've worked to accommodate every player. As of this writing they have the only software of any major online pokerroom that's Mac compatible, and they also offer no download versions of their games (great for the player who wants to get in a few hands at lunch, but doesn't want that icon on their desktop). Customer support responds quickly to questions, cashouts are handled promptly, and they own the distinction of featuring the only avatars of any poker room online which I can actually bear to look at. You will like the graphics at Pokerroom, and you'll be more than happy with the action. If you're a lower limit player you owe it to yourself to give Pokerroom a shot.
