Texas Hold'em: Building a Bankroll

Question
I'm trying to build a bankroll, but right now I'm only at $600. I'd like to get up to around $2000 so I can get out of the microlimits, and was wondering if you had any ‘quick bankroll builder' ideas. Thanks.

Answer
In fact I do. The best thing a player who's toiling in the microlimits can do is to quit playing exclusively at one card room and start getting aggressive with their bonus hunting. Look at the ‘bonus bonanza' list on our home page—right there is just about $2000 in bonus money that's ready for the taking. Figure in a few more card rooms and some reload offers and anyone who plays at least a break-even game of Texas Hold em should have zero trouble building a $3500-$5000 bankroll in no longer than 6 months time.

You can't make big money at the microlimits. It just can't be done. The rake puts a ceiling on your win rate, and no matter who you are there are only so many tables you can play at once. This is why bonus hunting is absolutely imperative if you're planning on building a bankroll from scratch. By taking full advantage of sign up bonuses, etc,. you can easily triple or quadrulple your ‘win rate', which will get you to the top of the Texas hold em mountain that much quicker. If you're just playing recreationally then I suppose it doesn't really matter; just stay at a limit that makes you comfortable. If, however, your goal is to eventually tackle bigger games then you need to build a bankroll; and it's going to be very hard to do that if all that's being added to the bank is your winnings from a $.50-$1.00 game.
