Craps The Rules of Craps Optimal Online Craps Strategy Best Places to Play Craps The Rules of Craps We're going to devote special attention to online craps. It's probably the most exciting casino game ever invented, yet many prospective players are confused by the layout and therefore avoid the game. The game of craps offers a number of different bets, which is one of the reasons why the game is so confusing. However, the game essentially revolves around the most popular bet, and that's the bet on the pass line. A pass line bet is made immediately after a roller has either hit their point or sevened out (more on these two terms in a minute). When you bet the pass line you win an amount that equals your wager if the shooter rolls a seven or an eleven on their first roll . If they roll a two, three or twelve on their first roll they 'crap out' and all pass line bets lose. If they roll a 4,5,6,8,9 or 10 that number is their 'point', and they must roll that number again before they roll a seven. If they do roll their point again they are said to have 'hit their point' and you win. A player who hits their point gets to continue being the one who rolls the dice, and the whole process starts over, at which time you can make another pass line bet. If they roll the seven they have 'sevened out', your bet is lost, and the dice are passed to the next player-again, at which time you can make a pass line bet. When you bet the pass line you will not win or lose your bet on every roll. If the point is a six, for instance, and the shooter goes on to shoot a 2,11,12,8,8, and 9 no money has changed hands on the pass line bet since neither a six or a seven have yet been rolled. Other bets Place bets: These are bets that a certain number will be rolled before a seven is rolled. For instance, if you place a bet on the six you'll win seven dollars for every six dollars you bet if a six is rolled before a seven. The same payout schedule applies to the eight. For the nine and the five you'll be paid eight dollars for every five you wagered, and for the four and the ten you'll win nine dollars for every five you wagered. Hard ways: This is a bet that a particular double will be rolled before either a) a seven, or b) a 'soft number' that's the same as the double. For example, if you bet $1 on the hard six, you'll win if the shooter rolls two threes before he rolls a seven or a 'soft six'; i.e., a one and a five or a two and a four. The payout for this bet varies from house to house, although it's usually 9-1. Come bets: When you make a come bet the next roll is the 'coming out' roll for that wager. It's the exact same bet as the pass line bet, only all the rules that apply to the pass line now apply to the next roll. So if the point is a six, and you make a bet on the come line, you will win that bet if the next roll is a seven-even though all pass line bets will lose. Similarly you'll lose that bet if the next roll is a 2.,3, or 12 even though the pass line bets won't be affected. If the shooter rolls a 4,5,6,8,9, or 10 that number will be the point for the purposes of your come bet. There are plenty of other bets you can make on the craps table, although for the sake of brevity we haven't gotten into all of them here-partly because it would take forever to explain them all, and partly because they're all horrible bets for the player. For now just acquaint yourself with the pass line bet you'll probably still have more fun playing this game than any other game offered in the casino.
